Weddings 2008

It took much longer than we thought, but I am so happy to let you all know that we have finally put together our 2008 Wedding Slideshow.

We highlighted photos from every wedding that we photographed. What a year, what incredible weddings. It is about an 11 minute slideshow so grab a snack and get nice and comfy! :). It is always so much fun and a little emotional for us to look over the past year and see all of the wonderful weddings we had the privilege of attending and capturing. We get to work with the most wonderful people, we hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed being part of all of these weddings.

Soon we will be announcing our new business name, new blog/site, new logo and a whole bunch of really exciting things. We can’t wait to share all of the work we have been doing. Thank you for all of you who made 2008 a huge success, we can’t wait to work with all of our amazing 2009 couples and see all the great things that this year brings.

We hope you all had a great week… Enjoy the show :).

Khadija & Tim’s Wedding

The day after Thanksgiving, Rob and I (and Sue) worked off our turkey by shooting our last wedding of the season – Khadija & Tim’s.

We started the day at the Courtyard in Waterbury, where both Khadija and Tim were getting ready. When we arrived in Khadija’s room she was surrounded by her mom and her bridesmaids. All of them were buzzing around helping things get organized and making sure everything went smoothly. Khadija didn’t seem stressed at all – she just seemed ready to marry Tim. While she was getting her makeup done, her mother and the makeup artist were talking about how Khadija had done such an incredible job with the planning. She had all of the perfect details – the dress, the shoes, the hair accessories, a cape – she had even put together her own bouquet. Once she put on the dress and walked over to the mirror, it was clear everything had come into place – she looked beautiful.

Tim and Khadija decided to see each other before the ceremony at the hotel. Once we told Tim that Khadija was coming down to meet him, he stood outside the main entrance with his back to the door. As the door opened and he heard her coming, Tim couldn’t help but smile. Khadija walked over and placed her hand on his shoulder and he turned. The bridal party standing around them became silent as the two met eyes and then shared a big hug.

The ceremony incorporated a lot of Tim’s Native American customs, the one that really touched us was the candle lighting. Every guest was given a candle when they came into the chapel. Once the ceremony was ready to begin, the elders of the family (the grandmothers), lit their candles and started down the aisle. They lit the candle of the first person in each seat along the aisle, and those people lit the candle of the person next to them and so on, and soon the entire room was filled with candle light. The bridemaids started down the aisle next carrying lanterns. Khadija came down the aisle with the light of the glowing candles surrounding her. It was beautiful. Once she and Tim lit the unity candle at the front of the altar, the guests blew out their candles. Just one of the many touches that made Khadija and Tim’s day magical.

Khadija & Tim thank you so much for choosing us to capture your day. Here are some of our favorites, (as always with commentary from Rob).

We really loved the design of Khadija’s dress, we couldn’t wait until she put it on, it was really beautiful.

Her silver shoes were perfect for their late November wedding.

I love the feeling of this shot, the emotion seen through the hands of the makeup artist and the expression on Khadija’s face, I just like it. :)

Khadija rarely stopped smiling, after all this was her wedding day!

Kathleen captured this one of Khadija’s hands while her mother and bride’s maids were helping her get her dress on.

The details of a wedding day are really wonderful to photograph.

Like many weddings that occur late in the year, Khadija & Tim decided to see each other before hand. I love the look on Tim’s face as he turns around to look at Khadija for the first time.

We had a very limited amount of day light left so we took a couple of quick photos before heading off to their ceremony.

It was unique to see the bride pinning the boutonniere on the groom, but it made for a very sweet moment.

We arrived at Mahann’s about twenty minutes after the sun had completely gone down, but that did not stop Khadija & Tim from braving the bitter cold to get some fun pictures. I love using only available light to create some artistic images. This one is my view…

…And this is Kathleen’s. I love the little bit of blue color still left in the sky. This shot was also done only with available light.

Speaking of only available light, this one really makes me happy, kind of moody huh?!

This is quickly becoming a signature portrait that we love to do. I really love how beautiful brides look from this angle as Khadija does in this shot.

Their ceremony was really beautiful, at the beginning of the ceremony as part of a Native American Ritual, the two grandmother’s shared the flame from their candle with everyone in attendance until everyone was lighting the room by candle light. This is how Khadija walked down the aisle. It was really emotional.

Kathleen captured Khadija arm-in-arm with her brother right before being walked down the aisle.

The beginning of the ceremony was lit only by candle light.

The chapel at Mahann’s was really pretty, the tall cielings and the chandeliers made for a really nice atmosphere.

Finally getting married.

Khadija’s brother during a reading.

A little reflection action.

I thought that a quick shot during their first dance would be a good way to finish this post. The way they looked at each other was really nice.

Tammy & Bill’s Wedding @ The Candlewood Inn

They have known each other since they were kids. They grew up together – just four houses apart. Her mother has pictures of them back in grade school that they laugh about now. Who’d have thought those two kids in those pictures would have ended up together?

They were about thirteen-years-old when his family was going to move to another state. When moving day came all the neighborhood kids came to say goodbye – she was one of them. Down in the basement, with all the commotion of packing going on upstairs, they shared their first kiss. She made the first move, he says now with a laugh.

They didn’t see each other again for close to twenty years. He had moved a couple more times since then – seen the country. She had become a performer and toured the world with the U.S.O. But in all their travels, they never found anything as good as what had started back home – on that same street, four houses apart.

His final move was back to the east coast. Somehow she ended up at his birthday party. They reconnected instantly, like no time had passed at all. His brother says that he could see something between them right away – they couldn’t get enough of each other. And they still can’t. I have a feeling it will stay that way forever.

- Tammy & Bill -

We had the pleasure of photographing Tammy & Bill’s Wedding day along with our good friend Sue. Since the ceremony was in the evening, Tammy and Bill decided to see each other before hand – something that worked out perfectly. The day was slightly overcast which made the bit of fall color that was still around pop even more – but the best part was the fog that had come down over the lake. It created such a romantic and mystical backdrop – like we were suddenly on the coast of England. We arranged the first meeting so that Tammy would come up behind Bill. Even while they weren’t facing each other, they had the exact same expression on their faces – pure excitement. Each couldn’t wait to see the other – it was such a sweet moment.

Both the ceremony and the reception were at The Candlewood Inn in Brookfield. The place looked gorgeous. Tammy outdid herself with all the details – she put gold bows on all the chairs, had candles lit everywhere, rose petals down the aisle and strewn on all the tables – she even put rhinestones on the place cards.

The ceremony was beautiful. During the vows, you could see several guests reach over to grab the hand of their own spouse, moved by the strength of the love in front of them. Like all great parties, the reception was filled with plenty of dancing. Since a lot of Tammy’s friend are fellow dancers, they were showing everyone else how it’s done. Of course during the slow dances Tammy would find Bill and for a couple of moments it would seem like they were the only two in the room.

We arrived to the Candlewood Inn and were welcomed by a very fog covered lake. It wasn’t raining yet though so we thought the fog could provide a mystical background for Tammy & Bill’s pictures.

But before we could take pictures, the bride had to get dressed! Here is her beautiful dress as it hung on the mirror in the bridal suite.

And of course her shoes.

While Tammy and the girls were getting dressed, Kathleen and I went to take some detail shots. Tammy actually hand tied each bow on the back of every chair by herself so she could make sure they all came out perfect.

A window provided a nice backdrop for a quick ring shot. I really liked the setting of her ring.

Tammy taking one more look in the mirror.

Tammy had really beautiful eyes…

…and her bouquet was really gorgeous.

Tammy & Bill opted to see each other before their ceremony as it gets dark very early in the middle of November. To make sure they still had their first look, Bill waited by the lake for Tammy to come behind him. Kathleen captured this moment.

It was pure happiness when they saw each other for the first time.

The last time we were at the Candlewood Inn it was still summer time, so it was interesting to shoot there during the fall when all the leaves had already come down.

As we headed down to the dock to get some shots by the water, Bill was the perfect gentleman as he helped his soon-to-be wife with her dress.

We really loved the fog over the water, it provided a really unique backdrop.

This one is my shot…

…and this one is Kathleen’s.

I thought this one was a fun way to shoot in the gazebo.

This is another one of my shots…

…and this is Kathleen’s. I really like the artistic way she composed this shot.

It was finally time for the ceremony!! This one makes me smile because obviously the flower girls are cute but even funnier is how I made it into this picture. I already captured a couple moments of these two walking down the aisle and apparently took a break to smile before walking to the back.

Getting Married!!

:)

Their smiles were simply wonderful!!

You know me and hands. :)

The moment right before the kiss…

…and then the kiss… and a hug.

Tammy and Bill took a quick moment for themselves after their ceremony up in the Bridal Suite, I took a quick photo on the stairs before getting ready for their reception.

Their cake was really beautiful.

Tammy and Bill danced their first dance to “Chasing Cars” by Snow Patrol. Tammy’s smile never disappeared all night long.

A little light action. :)

The Heartbeat Dance Band (who we also saw in Newport for Michelle & David’s Wedding back in September) kept everyone dancing all night long.

I had to take this shot as a shout-out to Vicki. She took a very similar shot of the same trumpet player also at Michelle & David’s Wedding.

Cake Cutting!!

The last dance of their absolutely wonderful wedding.

Tammy & Bill, thank you so much for choosing us to capture your day. We really loved meeting you both and getting to know you.
We hope you had a blast in St. Lucia.

Today is Khadija & Tim’s Wedding!!

It has been WAY TOO LONG since we last posted something so I have to start by apologizing to all of our really awesome and loyal blog readers. We hope you all had a really wonderful Thanksgiving! We have a ton of stuff to still post like Tammy & Bill’s Wedding and Candice’s headshots and some other really fun things.

But first today we are off to our last wedding of 2008. We are spending the day with Khadija & Tim who are simply a really fun a wonderful couple. We can’t wait to share their wedding as well as all of our other posts, so be sure to check back soon. We hope you are all enjoying your weekend.

Jacinda & Juan’s Wedding in Agawam, MA

I guess they could really thank Tom, for creating Myspace. Without it, they might not have found each other.

He saw her profile and was intrigued, so he sent her a message. She read the e-mail, checked out his profile, thought he was cute; so she wrote back. E-mails turned into phone calls and then finally they met in person. They hit it off right away. Pretty soon they were inseparable.

Just a few months after they became a couple, she got a job offer in Boston - hours away from northern New Jersey where they were both living and working. The long distance thing worked for awhile, but soon he moved up to join her. And then he asked her to be his wife.

-Jacinda & Juan -

Rob and I actually know Jacinda from our alma mater (Sacred Heart University). She probably doesn’t know this, but she was there the day Rob and I met back in October, 2002 (we’ll do a blog post about that whole story another day). She was one of the advisors on a conference we both went on.

We met Juan for the first time in June when we did their engagement session in Hoboken. It was clear to us that day that these two are perfect for each other. Jacinda has this air of energy about her – she is so full of life. Her magnetic personality draws you in immediately. Juan is her perfect counterpart. He’s more laid back, conveying a sense of quiet confidence that puts you at ease. Watching the way the interact, you can see just how crazy they are about one another.

As Jacinda’s father led her down the aisle to Juan, you could feel the energy in the room shift. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. We were all witnessing something really beautiful – the joining of two people who were meant to be together.

Here are a few of our favorites from their day… as you loyal blog readers know, this is where Rob’s takes over, enjoy!!

We started our day off with ring shots. Everything including getting ready all took place at Chez Josef in Agawam, MA. We found this really old piano in the lobby and thought it would be the perfect spot to shoot the rings.

Jacinda’s dress was simply beautiful, I like the simple details throughout, a nice mix between classic and modern.

A couple of last minute touchups before Jacinda walked down the aisle.

Her flowers were the perfect colors for a November wedding.

Kathleen captured this shot and what can I say, I LOVE IT!!

Are these two girls adorable, they were both Juan’s nieces.

The Reverend was pretty particular about the ceremony, so we were asked to not shoot during the ceremony except for the first kiss. I do love this photo though especially with the candles in the background. :)

Kathleen captured this awesome shot of Jacinda’s Godson while we were outside taking some photos following the ceremony.

We were all so happy to be able to go outside before the rain came, there was this great park across the street where we got to spend some time.

:)

This bridge was a great little place to shoot but was definitely a little difficult to get to, Jacinda didn’t complain once though and was just happy to be married.

I thought the few yellow leaves on the tree added a nice little fall detail.

The cake!!

We really loved the expressions on Jacinda’s face throughout the day, this one as they were being introduced makes me smile!

Jacinda and Juan’s first dance as captured by Kathleen…

…and then by me. Pure happiness.

After dinner Jacinda and Juan stepped outside with me for a couple of more shots, the rain had started by this point, but that didn’t stop them. That’s what umbrellas are for after all.

They had school busses for their guests so of course we had to jump on for a second.

This one makes me happy!!

Cake cutting.

They had a dollar dance and let me tell you, that was one fun time!!

Ok this one is seriously out of control. :) :) I don’t know exactly what happened, I think they both caught it at the same time and it was a fight to the finish. Either way it is funny to see the girl in the black dress still trying to hold on to a few pedals as the rest go flying.

I thought this was the perfect photo to finish with because it is just so sweet.

What a beautiful day your wedding was Jacinda & Juan. We can’t wait to hear how wonderful your honeymoon was. Hopefully you took a lot of pictures. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your day.
Rob & Kathleen

Congratulations to Same Sex Couples!!

We don’t like to talk about politics on our blog, but we don’t believe this is political. This is about LOVE - pure and simple.

When you find that one person that makes you happy, makes your face light up, completes your life – you just want to shout it from the roof tops. You want everyone to know, – I have found the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. You want to stand up in front of your friends and family and declare your love for each other.

That’s why we are SO happy that Connecticut has now become the second state in U.S. to make gay marriage legal. Last year we had the absolute pleasure of photographing the Civil Union of Donald & Gary who had their ceremony in Fairfield. The fact that this wonderful couple can now enjoy the same rights and benefits in a legal marriage is something that is really amazing to us. This is certainly a wonderful day.

Congratulations to Donald & Gary and all same sex couples!!

Today is Jacinda & Juan’s Wedding Day!!

Today Kathleen, myself & Sue are up really early to head up to Agawam & Springfield MA for Jacinda & Juan’s Wedding!! But before we do that we must make an essential Dunkin Donuts run. (By the way for those of you who are interested or just want to get us a coffee the next time you see us :) here is our coffee order:

1.Large Iced Coffee with skim milk and 5 Sweet & Lows for me (Do I drink it really sweet??)
2.Kathleen’s coffee drink of choice is a medium Coffee Coolata with skim milk.)

We would be forever grateful!! :) We also really love Frappuccinos from Starbucks!! Yes of course we would return the favor, as long as we know how you take it.

Anyways enough about us and coffee, check back in a day or so for some previews from not only Jacinda & Juan’s Wedding but some from our really fun engagement sessions that we have photographed recently. Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!!
